Details of the Fatal SR 167 Collision
According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Rene died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. His death was officially ruled accidental.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:39 a.m. on southbound State Route 167, just north of State Route 18 in Auburn.
According to preliminary information from the Washington State Patrol, Rene was driving a 2007 Scion when he reportedly lost control, struck the concrete barrier on the left side of the roadway, and came to a stop in the second lane from the left.
Investigators believe Rene subsequently exited his disabled vehicle. Tragically, a southbound Tesla then struck both the stationary Scion and Rene. Following that collision, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck also struck him.
Despite the emergency response, Rene succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Roadway Closure Following the Tragic Accident
The devastating collision resulted in a lengthy closure of the affected section of southbound State Route 167.
The roadway remained blocked for approximately five hours and sixteen minutes as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene, attended to the aftermath, and gathered information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the collision.
