With broken hearts, we remember Mickey W. Swisher, 30, of Morgantown, West Virginia, whose life was tragically lost following a construction accident on the I-79 bridge Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026.
The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. at Mile Marker 142.5 on the I-79 bridge over White Day Creek Road near the Marion and Monongalia county line. According to West Virginia State Police, a heavy crane malfunction caused concrete barriers to strike three construction workers, causing them to fall from the bridge.
Mickey suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities responded to the industrial accident and worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. His family was notified following the incident.
Two other workers were injured and transported for medical treatment as emergency crews responded to the scene.
Mickey was more than a name connected to a tragic accident. He was a loved one, a friend, and a valued member of his community. His sudden passing leaves behind a deep sense of grief for those who knew and cared for him.
