The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) community is mourning the loss of Detective Sergeant Marc Claude Gauvin #11859, who passed away on September 18, 2026, from natural causes at the age of 49.
Marc’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated police officer whose 20 years of service with the Ontario Provincial Police were defined by commitment, professionalism, and a dedication to serving others. His death has brought sadness to his family, colleagues, friends, and members of the policing community across Ontario.
Marc began his policing journey with the OPP as an auxiliary constable on October 1, 2003, when he was assigned to the Ottawa Unit. His commitment to law enforcement continued when he became a regular member of the OPP on January 3, 2006, and was posted to the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment.
Throughout his career, Marc served with dedication and contributed to the important work carried out by the Ontario Provincial Police. His colleagues remember the commitment he brought to his role and the impact he made during his years of service.
Beyond the uniform, Marc was a loved family member, friend, and valued colleague whose presence touched many lives. His absence will be deeply felt by those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
