With heavy hearts, we remember Jessy Samuel Gonzales, 31, whose life tragically came to an end following an accidental drowning beneath a bridge on San Antonio’s West Side early Monday.
Jessy was discovered face-down in the river near Northwest 26th Street, West Houston Street, and Travis Street after people walking beneath the bridge noticed him in the water. In a moment of urgency, bystanders entered the river and pulled him to shore before calling emergency services.
Their efforts reflected the seriousness of the situation as they attempted to help Jessy and give him a chance to survive. Despite attempts by responders to revive him, Jessy could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified Jessy and determined that his cause of death was drowning. His death was ruled accidental.
Behind every tragedy is a person whose life held meaning beyond the circumstances of their passing. Jessy was more than a name in a report—he was someone with memories, relationships, and people who cared about him.
His unexpected death has left those who knew him grieving a painful loss and reflecting on the life he lived. The memories he created and the impact he had on others will remain with those who continue to mourn him.
