With profound sadness, family and friends are mourning the loss of Katie Kieffer, 35, of Darlington, Wisconsin, whose life was tragically cut short in a shooting that authorities say occurred while she was dropping off her child.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded on September 19, when deputies with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 1:28 p.m. to reports of two people suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home in the Township of Smelser, just south of Cuba City.
Katie was found deceased at the scene near a residence on Rose Lane.
Authorities identified the other person involved as 40-year-old Ben Randecker of rural Cuba City. Investigators said Katie and Randecker had previously been in a relationship and shared a child, though their relationship had recently ended.
Katie’s sudden passing has left her family, friends, and community facing an unimaginable loss. A life filled with personal moments, relationships, and memories was taken far too soon.
