With sadness and heavy hearts, the community is mourning the death of Ben Randecker, 40, of rural Cuba City, Wisconsin, who died following a tragic shooting in the Township of Smelser on September 19, 2026.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 1:28 p.m. after receiving reports of two people suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home near Cuba City.
When authorities arrived, they found Randecker injured outside the residence near a vehicle. A woman, identified as 35-year-old Katie Kieffer of Darlington, was found deceased at the scene.
First responders provided medical assistance to Randecker before he was transported to Southwest Health Center in Platteville. He was later transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Madison, where he died from his injuries.
The tragic incident has left those connected to the family facing a painful and complicated loss. Randecker leaves behind a child and memories shared with family and loved ones.
